A.H. Hirsch

This 16 yr old bourbon is far finer whiskey than I can afford and also one that I'll have to write about later as I've forgotten my tasting. Shucks, I guess I'll just have to go try it again.

From Bevmo:
"FIVE STARS SPIRIT JOURNAL. It's as seductive and coy a Bourbon nose I've come across, in the mouth, tastes of caramel, oats, coffee, wood smoke, maple syrup, and oak are present."
George Dickel #12
90 proof

This is my American whisky of choice. Unlike other American whiskies spelled with an "e" before the y, George Dickel insists on spelling it the Scottish way, because they consider it on par with the famed Scotch due to the care they take in distilling this fine whisky. A Tennessee whisky rather than Bourbon due to the charcoal filtering they use to mellow this delicious drink. The flavors make me think of fresh sweet corn and oak, with none of the heavy oiliness found in many bourbons. While at 90 proof, this whiskey shows none of the harshness one might expect. In my opinion best served on the rocks. Remember, "Water's for fishing, Dickel's for drinking."

Bulleit Bourbon

Bulleit bourbon is a small batch bourbon with a distinctly different flavor. This bourbon has a high rye content giving it a spicier and lighter flavor than many bourbons. To be sure the sweetness is still present, but not quite so overpowering. When tasting, the whiskey has a fantastic entry, a full bodied flavor with plenty of spice, but the finish is disappointingly weak. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for this bourbon, but if I were somewhere with a limited selection and saw this on the shelf it is definitely worth a little extra money.

George Dickel Barrel Reserve
86 proof

Take all the best qualities of George dickel and make it a bit richer. It's excellent, but I'm not sure it's worth the price compared to the already fine #12.
