Rittenhouse 100

Rittenhouse 100 is the first rye I've tried, and I have to say I rather like it. Not to be mistaken with Canadian whiskey, Canadian whiskey, while once mostly rye, has no rules stating that this has to be the case and it often is not. Rye is the classic American drink that is full of spice and fruit. Rye's were abandoned around the time prohibition ended and distilleries needed to get back on their feet fast, corn whiskey was cheaper and quicker to produce, so that's how it was. Rittenhouse was the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits competition American Whiskey of the year, and at only $20 it's a bargain. I'll definately have to try more ryes.
